Tain & District Development Trust was established in 2017 following a community-wide consultation that highlighted a desire from local people for a grass-roots approach towards making our community a better place to live, work, rest, and play. We are tasked with facilitating social, economic, and environmental growth within the Ward 7 area, which includes: Tain, Balintore, Edderton, Hill of Fearn, Hilton of Cadboll, Inver, Portmahomack, Kilmuir, Logie, Nigg and Shandwick.

There are some fantastic examples out there of what can be achieved within a community when individuals, groups and businesses work together. Our District is no exception to this and as a community facilitator we are making it our mission to empower, connect and involve local people in the creation of new opportunities that will lead us to long-lasting and meaningful change within Tain and District.

Destination Tain & District (working title only) is the TDDT Tourism Project that aims to promote our area (Ward 7), as a unique tourist destination, bringing places and people closer together, maximising community assets in-order to boost our local economy, training and employment opportunities. This project’s never been more important due to the Covid 19 crisis. Our local hospitality and leisure businesses face a gruelling 14-month winter period due to the Covid 19 lockdown. We must give our businesses the best chance of survival post crisis and this project is key to ensuring our economy thrives in the aftermath of this pandemic and ultimately impacts positively on the social, economic and environmental welfare of our community moving forward.

We’ve made considerable headway over the last year through the goodwill of volunteers and support in kind from local businesses and are now ready to implement our project with a view to being up and ready to go for the October Holiday Season 2020 where we can test pilot with a view to having a full launch for the Easter Holiday Season 2021 onwards. To do this we will implement the 4 I’s that form the core of our Tourism Strategy that derived from community-wide consultation. 

 

4 I’s – Destination Tain & District

Identity – Bring our Brand Identity to life and create a portfolio of content and key marketing messages to promote Tain and District as desirable tourist destination.

Information – Centralisation of all tourist information platforms under the new Brand. Create experience packages for our identified target markets and to create content and distribute through a multi-media marketing campaign, promoting the District in its entirety. Channels include: App development, Website, Social Media, Pod Casts, Virtual Reality, (Print/Radio/TV advertising campaign) and Signage. We will link in with NC500 and tap into their global pull.

Infrastructure – Signpost a tourist route that highlights unique tourist attractions, tourist information points through-out the District. Taking influence from the success of NC500, Fife Coastal Path, Venture North etc). Our project will dovetail into the Nigg and Cromarty Port Project, with a view to creating a vibrant tourism landscape for all tourists to enjoy once they have crossed the firth. The aim is for tourists to spend time and money with us, through joined-up promotion of the unique tourist attractions and experiences we share across our District.

Innovation – TDDT Youth Heritage Programme. Collaborating with schools, colleges, and youth groups, encouraging our youth to explore and enjoy their Heritage through a series of interactive and experiential workshops. Our young people can bring fresh innovative ideas and enthusiasm to our heritage projects and wider tourism strategy and in return they’ll have the opportunity to get involved in our projects, develop new skills, interests and connection to the wider communities. Our young people play an important role in our project making it innovative, relevant, and long lasting. 

TDDT will continue to collaborate with our key partners, local businesses, and the wider community to ensure a successful implementation of our Tourism Strategy. We will remain flexible and open to any adaptations that may need to be made because of the Covid 19 pandemic and adjust accordingly. At present we have launched our online market place – Tain and District #Love Local, that will allow businesses to trade our promote themselves during the current lockdown restrictions whilst actively looking to secure funding to allow us to bring our 4 I’s to life.
